While
the phenomenon of homelessness is a social problem that attracts more and more
attention from social sciences, it is also obvious that we have a literature,
which the social scientists cannot agree upon in conceptualizing and theorizing
the problem. Languages, cultures and social and economic structures of
societies can be considered as some of the most important reasons that social
scientists are not in agreement on. On the other hand, until now ever made
theories tell us what the phenomenon of homelessness is, what can happen in the
background and important arguments for what we can do in the context of social
policies. On the other hand, homelessness emerged as an important social
problem in the 1980s, especially in developed countries, where capitalism was
working with all its institutions and the individuality was at the forefront.
For undeveloped and developing countries, poverty, insufficient income,
migration, unemployment, urban transformation, market transformation, lack of
self-realization, mental illness and substance dependence have begun to
increase with the effect of change in family structure. Ultimately, we can say
that these features and the phenomenon of homelessness are characterized by
identified with the urban realm, together with a sort of conurbation. The
study, starting from this basic thesis, discusses the theories about
homelessness and the reasons for homelessness. First, two basic theoretical
approaches are considered: “individual” and “structural” theoretical
approaches.  Second, theories that have
emerged as alternatives to the two basic approaches that were mentioned are
evaluated.
